Private Investigator Serves Up a Heavy Dose of "Crown's Law"

Oceanside, CA (PRWeb) March 5, 2007 -- Far from the typical "find the bad guy's" PI novel, author Wolf Wootan has produced an intelligent, character-driven story stripped clean of superficial veneer. A former Air force pilot with forty+ years in the computer industry, Wootan has written and edited hundreds of documents over the years. "My business career allowed me to write, but it was all technical non-fiction," he explains. "In 2000, I tried my hand at writing a novel and discovered my niche. I discovered that not only did I enjoy writing novels, I was pretty good at it." With a life-long ardor for the mystery genre that began with Poe and Sherlock Holmes, and eventually lead to Hammett, Chandler and Spillane, it is no surprise the direction Wootan is heading.

In his sophomore novel "Crown's Law," Wootan leans heavily on the areas in and around Orange County, CA, where he has lived for 38 years. Sam Crown, a homicide investigator and highly-decorated Marine, leaves the Orange County Sheriff's Department and opens his own PI business. Being chastised by his superiors for shooting a pistol-wielding junkie was the last straw, and Crown pours his strong moral code into a business that he gets to define his own way.

While on a stakeout, Sam finds the 13 year-old sister of a murdered hooker living in a nearby car. Discovering that she is a mathematical genius, Sam, true-to-form, decides to take her under his wing. Becky slowly begins to train the responsibility-dodging Sam to become the father she had never known, making for an interesting sub-plot to the ensuing mystery. "Some readers have told me that they consider Becky the main character," says Wootan, showing how much impact she has on this story.

When a murder victim is found with Sam's business card in his pocket, the cops start knocking at his door, dragging both him and Becky deep into a murder investigation. Entangled in espionage, smuggling and now, the new target for the killers, Sam and Becky are in grave danger. With a beautiful FBI agent hot on Sam's tail, the violent noose tightens, and in the end, everyone is about to witness Sam deliver up a heavy dose of Crown's Law.

"Crown's Law" is the second of Wootan's projects, following the highly acclaimed spy techno-thriller "Edge of Tomorrow." He has just finished the sequel titled "Return of the Assassin."
