NAMWOLF Laments Lack of Minority or Women-Owned firms on The American Lawyer's List of 100 Top-Grossing Firms

Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) June 2, 2007 -- Today, the National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF) issued a statement expressing disappointment at the dearth of minority and women owned law firms on the American Lawyer's annual survey of law firm finances. Since its inception in 2001, NAMWOLF has fought to ensure that minority and women owned law firms are afforded fair opportunities to compete for the legal work of major companies. Despite the many successes, it is clear much more progress is needed.

"This merely demonstrates, in yet another way, that the vast majority of legal business in America is awarded to majority-owned law firms," said Yolanda Coly, Associate Director of NAMWOLF. "NAMWOLF believes that outsourcing work to firms owned by women and minorities can only increase the quality of legal representation. Ensuring that women and minority-owned law firms are considered for outside counsel engagements is not just a matter of doing the right thing, it's a matter of fiduciary obligation."

The National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms (www.namwolf.org) is a national trade association comprised of a select group of minority and women-owned law firms who exhibit excellence in the legal profession. The primary aim of the organization is to increase diversity within the profession by advocating for the retention of minority and women owned law firms by businesses and public entities.
