Spouse Immigration Law - A Beginner?s Guide

Marriages and weddings have their own share of excitement and complexities. Leading a married life is quite simple if the two people are from the same region or even the same country. However, if the people are from a different country, things may be a bit difficult at first.

People from different countries wishing to lead a happily married life have to contend with spouse immigration laws of all kinds. These laws are quite different depending on the countries the two married partners reside in. The difference in these laws also depends on the development status and the economical condition of the two countries in question. For example, if a person from a second or third world country wishes to live in a first world country after marriage, the process of spouse immigration will be difficult. Whereas if a person from a first world country wishes to live in a second or third world country after marriage, the process of spouse immigration will be a smooth ride.

One should also be careful before applying for citizenship under the prevailing Spouse Immigration Law. The marriage is the fundamental concept of such laws, and therefore all documents and certificates pertaining to the marriage should be genuine and readily available. If some document or certificate does take time, it is suggested that one waits for the given time frame. Documents and certificates under the Spouse Immigration Law are scrutinized strictly, and that would be the whole basis of whether permission to immigrate is granted or not.

As far as United States Spouse Immigration Law is concerned, they are quite simple and hassle free. If a US citizen marries an alien ? defined as someone living and a natural citizen of another country ? the alien becomes an 'immediate relative' of the US citizen and can therefore get a green card on the basis of the marriage.

Other than the actual Spouse Immigration visa, there is also the Fianc? Visa. Under this, the citizen of the US should remain unmarried until the fianc? arrives in the US, and also the wedding should take place within three months of the fianc??s arrival into the United States of America.

To become a US citizen, one should go through what is called the 'naturalization process'. Once this naturalization process is done with, the individual becomes a legal permanent citizen of the US and gains a number of rights and privileges, like the right to vote, Social Security, United States passport, and some security privileges. This process is looked after by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).
