Passing of New Law Targets Nevada Businesses Hiring Illegal Workers

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) October 12, 2007 -- The passing of Assembly Bill 383 has many local businesses shaking in their boots as they seek new ways of hiring employees. The bill enforces strict penalties on businesses that hire undocumented workers, forcing many to reevaluate their staff. Many questions are being raised by business owners and those illegally employed. It will take effect on October 1st.

Alfredo Martinez, owner of two restaurants, speaks about his employees and the issue at hand. Says Martinez: "They'll show you their social security card, their health card, and their green card. That's what we ask them for and we start from there." Martinez admits when hiring workers, many of them show up with the right documents that could be falsified. Employers can verify the social security numbers of their employees online. Martinez is not too worried about his business, but says he knows several others that will be affected and feels this law will cause more harm than help.
