Interest Rate Bottom Seen Drawing Institutional Invesestors to Tax Liens

Elmhurst, IL (PRWEB) May 5, 2008 -- Thanks to the Fed, interest rates are at their lowest point in years, and probably have bottomed out. One of the effects of the rate cuts is to increase the attractiveness of property tax liens as an investment with hedge funds, other institutional investors, and even high net-worth individuals according to Dan Friedman, President of Optimum Realty Corporation, a long-time tax lien investor based in the Chicago area.

Property tax liens are issued by local governments and are secured by real property. They are considered an alternative investment and most investors, even professionals, are not familiar with tax liens.

"Tax liens pay a high, fixed rate of return, so they become increasingly desirable in an environment of very low borrowing costs. Many hedge funds have plenty of capital to invest are seeking low-risk absoloute returns not correlated to the stock market. That sounds like a brief description of tax liens," according to Friedman. He adds, "Since most hedge funds have a lean organizational structure and no experience with this asset class, the prevailing business model is for fund managers to outsource the location of tax liens, along with the accompanying due diligence and day-to-day portfolio management to outside experts on a fee basis."

Started in 1991, Optimum Realty Corporation is one of the most experienced multi-state tax lien investors in the USA. The company manages a portfolio of tax liens and also provdes tax lien acquisition and servicing to hedge funds. A key advantage is their property disposal expertise, especially their innovative use of an online auction site, taxdeed.com, to sell tax foreclosure real estate.

In addition to being President of the company, Dan Friedman is the author of Tax Lien Investing for Beginners. He is a frequent speaker on the topic of tax lien investing.

Making Your Internet Business Legal - A Simple Guide
When I first started thinking about beginning an online business, I didn't think about the legalities. I knew I wanted to make some extra money. Lots of money! Sound familiar? So, I began doing some research. One day I ran across the headline of an article that I will never forget. It read, "Your Business; Get Legal Or Get Cheated"! As if that were not scary enough, there was more to come. As I began to skim the page, I was horrified to see the words, "Tax ID number." Tax ID number? I don't know anything about that! At that moment, I thought the dream of owning my own business was just that, a dream. I began to read more of the article and it actually sounded pretty simple. I was surprised to find how simple it really was. Ther...

Get The Straight Facts About Bankruptcy Law
There used to be a time not that many years ago where one could file for bankruptcy at the drop of a hat, just because they wanted to. In the majority of cases, there did not even need to be a real financial need to do so, but with the very lax bankruptcy laws in place at that time, many people found it easier to file for bankruptcy than to struggle with paying their debts, and many people filed for bankruptcy once every two or three years.
