Ex-attorney Launches Website that Offers One-of-a-Kind Baby & Children’s Items
Greenville, SC (PRWEB) July 1, 2006 -- Ex-attorney turned artist/internet entrepreneur, Ann Coleman, launches Roseberry Creek Designs (www.roseberrycreekdesigns.com) and jumps on board the “indie” craft revolution that gives consumers an alternative to the mass produced items for babies and children.
Coleman had never heard the term “indie” in reference to art and design until she began research for her online retail business. Now, she is one of many talented independent (hence the term “indie”) artists and crafters that is building a business online by marketing and selling unique items.
“There is a huge grassroots movement out there to back away from the ‘big box stores’, which sell the same cookie-cutter, mass produced goods,” Coleman explained. “We are surrounded by everything from Wal-Mart to Pottery Barn, but people want more uniquely designed, handmade goods that you don’t see everywhere you turn,” she added. This defines the very essence of the “indie” craft revolution. There was a similar response to the Industrial Revolution at the turn of the century that resulted in the craftsmen style and in the 60’s and 70’s with the hippie counterculture, somewhat of a snub to the “establishment.” The indie crafters of today make everything from crocheted jewelry and handmade soap to punk rock clothing for infants.
While Coleman’s business is not quite in the punk rock category, she does consider herself an indie artist who showcases and sells baby and children’s gifts and décor by other indie designers and artists. Her recently launched Roseberry Creek Designs, is an online store that carries out-of-the-ordinary, handmade items ideal for nurseries, children’s rooms, and shower and gift ideas. The store brings together the work of many talented indie artists and designers that produce extremely unique creations, ranging from wall décor and hand-painted furniture to handmade diaper bags and hand-embroidered, vintage reproduction pillow cases and baby blankets.
“I was fed up with practicing law and wanted to return to my creative roots. The obvious choice, since I have a 5 year old, was to design for children and babies. But, having been in retail for years before going to law school, I had no desire to open a bricks and mortar store, and I decided the internet would provide me the freedom and flexibility I desired while giving me an outlet for my artistic urges.” Through her extensive research, Coleman recognized a real void in the marketplace for distinctive, handmade items. “Everything I saw was not only very ho-hum and ordinary, but most all of the sites offered the exact same products, which, seemed extremely frustrating for the consumer,” Coleman explained. She decided to seek out the most talented artists and designers of baby and children’s gifts and décor to create a competitive online business that offers extraordinary, out-of-the-box products.
After building a network of talented indie artists and designers, including herself, Coleman launched Roseberry Creek Designs and now sells a full line of handmade, customized products. Products featured on www.roseberrycreekdesigns.com include:
-Wall décor: including original paintings, prints, mixed media, Giclee and wooden wall letters
-Nursery and children’s room décor: Hand-painted drawer pulls and knobs, wall hooks, lamps, memory boxes, step stools, picture frames and more.
-Shower gifts and baby items: bibs and burp cloths made from vintage chenille bedspreads and designer fabrics, designer fabric-covered baby wipe boxes, felted and crochet baby booties, handmade diaper bags, hand-embroidered vintage reproduction pillow cases and baby blankets, and more.
-Children’s personalized stationery products: Note cards, calling cards, gift stickers and bag tags
-Children’s gifts: Personalized appliquéd pillows and wall hangings, monogrammed clogs, hand-painted beaded necklaces and bracelets
As new artists join Roseberry Creek Designs almost daily, the product line expands. New items will be added soon, including appliquéd birthday bibs, blankets and onesies, crocheted girls’ purses, hand-knitted animals and dolls, crocheted iPod and cell phone cases, and hand-painted children’s tables and chairs. Coleman carefully selected the artists and designers after evaluating their products and determining their fit in the line of products offered on Roseberry Creek Designs. “I look for products that are unique, innovative, well-made and not available on the mass market,” Coleman explained. “Many of the products are retro, hip and cool where others are more classic and traditional, giving consumers a choice of products to match their personal style.”
Items range from $14 to a $120 and are usually shipped within four to six weeks. For more information about Roseberry Creek Designs, visit www.roseberrycreekdesigns.com or call 864-235-2037.

Pending Federal Law Threatens All Copyright Owners says the Hodgson Law Group
The Shawn Bentley Orphan Works Act of 2008 (S. 2913) "Orphan Works Act of 2008" (H.R. 5889) allows anyone to use a copyrighted work without first obtaining permission. The user can later claim that a diligent search was conducted but the owner could not be found in any later action for infringement. This new legislation will apply to all copyright owners whether or not the work was previously registered with the Copyright Office. The legislation threatens the rights of artists, photographers, composers, film makers, publishers, and visual artists says the Hodgson Law Group. The Copyright Office not only endorses this legislation, but also advocates further changes that go beyond the proposed statute in reducing copyright protection. T...
