Highland Global and Thinking Outside the Boxe Release Comments by Robert M. Clinger III on the Capital Projects Sales Tax Act (RIDE II Initiative) for

Myrtle Beach, SC (PRWEB) November 4, 2006 -- The Executive Committee of Robert M. Clinger III, former Republican candidate for the Horry County Council District #2 seat, released the text of Mr. Clinger's comments regarding the proposed Capital Projects Sales Tax Act (the RIDE II Initiative).

Mr. Clinger's comments come the week before the November 7, 2006 general election when the voters of Horry County will decide the fate of the RIDE II initiative in a referendum. The proposed additional 1% sales tax would fund the construction of crucial transportation infrastructure projects throughout Horry County. An excerpt from Mr. Clinger's comments follows:

With November 7th quickly approaching, the future of the Capital Projects Sales Tax Act, the RIDE II initiative, remains uncertain. I have considered this proposal carefully, both as a former candidate for the Horry County Council and as a private citizen, and I have examined both the negative aspects and positive ramifications of the initiative. And while I believe in lowering the tax burden for us all, I feel that RIDE II offers us the only viable option for making the investments in our transportation infrastructure that are crucial for the continued well being of our area. ... To those still opposed, I urge you to consider this: If the RIDE II initiative fails and Columbia does not provide funding for our roads, what are our alternatives? Higher property taxes? A creaking transportation infrastructure that will be further strained? Or will the County Council have the resolve to impose a strict moratorium on growth until adequate roads are built? The consequences of inaction do not serve our interests well...
